2. The Soul

    •    Use eSword to search for the word ‘soul’, using KJV+ as your Bible version.
If you need help using eSword refer to the eSword website tutorials.

    •    You’ll find the word ‘soul’ occurs over 400 times. Look at the first occurrence in Genesis 2:7. What is it saying? What does “Strongs” say the word ‘soul’ means?

    •    Try looking at this same verse in the other translations made available in eSword. What is the idea being presented?

    •    It’s worth spending a little time scanning down the other occurrences of ‘soul’ to get a feel for what the Bible is telling us a soul is.

    •    Another approach is to search for the original Hebrew word using Strong’s number for it. Search for H5315 in the KJV+ Bible version. Have a look at the first four occurrences of the word in Genesis. What is this telling us about the meaning of the word that’s often translated ‘soul’?

    •    There are a couple of interesting verses in Ezekiel 18:4 & 20. What are these verses telling us about the soul?

    •    What conclusions can you draw from your search?

Obviously, this is only a very brief look into this subject, however you might be surprised by what you’ve found. You might like to spend more time looking into it in more detail using the more than 400 verses where ‘soul’ occurs. Also, you could try looking at how these verses are presented in other translations.

If you haven’t already done so, you might like to work through “Bible Surprises” part1. “The immortal soul”.
